2 million photos from Panoramio in Google Earth
Yesterday 300,000 new photos from Panoramio were added to Google Earth, that means that the total number of photos in Google Earth is 2 million right now.
We also added a new feature a couple of weeks ago. Now you can ask for a second review for your photos in the case they have not been selected for Google Earth. First, check the photo acceptance policy for Google Earth and if still you think that your photo should be in Google Earth, please, submit the photo ID using this review form. We will take a second look to the photos and inform you by e-mail about the decision.
Still there is a long delay bringing the photos from Panoramio to Google Earth. However we have realized that this delay works like a quarantine with very nice effects. First during the time that photos are only in the map of Panoramio.com, they are reviewed by the visitors of the site, making difficult that inappropriate photos are sent to Google Earth. Second, during the “quarantine” the photos are viewed, added to favorites, commented, etc. thus each photo gets a popularity level that correlates quite well with its overall quality. This is extremely important because when you explore a place in Google Earth you first see the best photos and only if you zoom-in enough you get the all the others, from more to less popularity.
As anyone else, I want to see my fresh uploaded photos in Google Earth as soon as possible, but I understand that people want to see mainly the best shots from Panoramio in Google Earth, therefore I am very happy to discover the good side of the delay, it makes waiting easier. Anyway, remember that Panoramio’s map gets hundred of thousands of visitors every day, so even if your photos are still not visible in Google Earth, right after being uploaded they are available to many people.
By the way, the next update of photos will be on October 15th (notice: this update was canceled, the next one on November 15th).

When is the next update?
Sorry, I forgot to include this information in the post. It will be on October 15th.
Bonjour,
One more question: Which is the highest ID uploaded to GE now?
No Joaquin, it is 3500000.
I don’t know, but I think it should be around 3600000.
Cheers,
Hello Eduardo, I do quite agree with you about the delay thing and selection effect, particularly because I so often see so many pictures that are far better than mine and they are also usually more popular and it is good that they show up instead of some of my very poor shots. Anyway, the sheer number of possible visitors is great here, i would never dream of showing my pictures to almost 1000 people around the world!
Whereas I do realise that many of the photos posted on GE are better than the ones I have submitted, I still fail to understand why there are so many images on GE that by anyone’s standards should not have been accepted.
With respect,
Rubenn Dovar
Three of my photos were uploded, the highes ID was 3689261.

Hi Eduardo !
You’re right… in theory ! But this “quarantine” does not work as well as it should, especially in very touristic places. When you download a photo, it can been in the “all photos” tab, but only for a short time, because it is quicly replaced by more recent pictures.
A few months ago, the photos had a second chance to be seen, when they entered the “popular” tab, because the newest popular appeared on the firs page of the tab. But now, the first page of the popular tab shows the oldest popular pictures. If there are many pictures on that places, new pictures are very difficult to find, even if they have been commented by many people.
It is not a problem for “old” panoramio members, who have very popular pictures, because their personal page are often visited by people who did not find their new pictures on the map. But it must be very frustrating for newcomers.
It wiil be nice to see some statistic data (a table or a graph) showing the growth of Panoramio pics versus time, starting from the beginning (August 2005 ?):
1)max photo ID#
2)total number of Pics on Panoramio
3)total number reviewed
3)total number accepted/rejected
4)total number in GE

Hi
Aldo
Bonjour,
Hello Eduardo,
Many of my pictures have been accepted for Google Earth ( I think in the end of August or the beginning of September), but I still don’t see them in Google Earth. I thought they would be included on the September 19th Google Earth “add”, but they weren’t. How do I know if they will be on the October 15th “add”?
Thank you,
DeEtte

Hi
Aldo
In Help (http://www.panoramio.com/help/#GE_3) the next update is now on Nov 15th 07. What is right October or November?
improvment idea: show the total number of view images per user on the front page of each user.
Is the help wrong? In help the next update is on 15.11.07
Super , habe jetzt erst diese möglichkeit entdeckt und gleich ein paar Fotos geladen !
Why my photo, if approvated, not included in google earth, http://www.panoramio.com/photo/3803571
Il mio inglese fa quasi schifo, speriamo bene!
Quando è il prossimo aggiornamento?
When is the next update?
Perchè io ho carcato delle foto verso la fine di settembre e i primi di ottobre.
Because I have uploaded my photos to the end of September and the first week of October.
and this update when will appear on GE?
I mean… we are at october 21th… and the upload to GE it was on october 15th… but the photos aren’t on GE :S:S
why?
cheers
I’m new to Panoramio and have uploaded several photos already that I have personally taken over the years of places I have visited. I did this because Google Earth is on my computer at work and on my breaks, I’ve been enjoying “touring” places I’ll never get the opportunity to physically visit. Not just the typical places tourists would go but cities and towns around the world similar to the city in which I live as well as places similar in size to places where my friends and family live. It really is fascinating. So I decided to upload photos of places I felt would be interesting to people cruising Google Earth. Most of the photos I uploaded are of places that aren’t already on Google Earth and I hope all of them will be accepted once reviewed.
I do have a quick question that wasn’t addressed specifically in the Panoramio faq: on average (a “ball-park guesstimate”) how long does it normally take from upload to Panoramio to review for Google Earth?
hi i need to upload some photos but i can’t what should i do?
Hello,
I have seen that some of my uploaded photos to Panoramio, have the icon “this picture has been selected for google earth”.But I cannot see them in Google Earth.Wouid you be so kind to tell me why?
Yours faithfuly!
