A new religion has born
October 31st, 2005 by Joaquín Cuenca Abela
It had to be done.
Now that the Kansas state finally seems to be receptive about teaching alternative “theories” about the origin of men, it is our duty to do not limit these alternative theories to Intelligent Design, as there are other equally valid theories that can be taught.
I, for one, welcome our new Flying Spaguetti Monster overlord.
Priceless.

Well, intelligent design is not about GOD anyway, its about infering intelligent design on things so complex that are not the product of mere chance and natural selection. At some point in molecular biology, the darwing theory of evolution is not contrasted scientifically, there are no papers or articles writen on that subject explaining how complex phenomena inside the cell happend to exist using only evolution theory. This lack of inormation, make some people in the scientific comunity starting to point on a different direction.
So before making a fun of it, try to make use of the internet to ask yourself questions about it.
You probabbly beleive of evolution, because you have been told to do so, but these things are beeing discussed at higher scientifical levels, its not a matter of public opinion or religious beliefs.
A good book to start with, if you are interested

from Michael Behe
I will point you to some nice comment in the Amazon reviews:
Behe said: To be a precursor in Darwin’s sense we must show that a motorcycle can be built from “numerous, successive, slight modifications” to a bicycle. If we are to keep our analogy relevant to biology, however, each change can only be a slight modification, duplication, or rearrangement of a preexisting component, and the change must improve the function of the bicycle.
Reviewer J. M. Ridlon, PhD student in microbiology, answered: Not true Dr. Behe. Bacteria evolve rapidly both through modification, duplication or rearrangement of existing structures in their genome as well as by acquiring DNA from other bacterial cells, viruses or the environment. Think I’m kidding. I’ll use the most familiar example…antibiotic resistance in bacteria. It turns out that bacteria can have a form of sexual reproduction with one another through a tubular rod known as a pillus. Some bacteria contain small self replicating circular pieces of DNA which are called plasmids. Plasmids contain genes that are not necessarily required for growth normally, though can have selective advantage in some environments, such as a patient taking antibiotics. Bacteria can become resistant to an antibiotic through acquiring a plasmid containing an antibiotic resistance gene from another bacterium! THIS IS EVOLUTION!!!!. See here the review.
Of course not absolutely everything is explained by ciencia, but everyday scientists explain more thing. It’s incredible how Behe calls Darwin’s Black Box and then he puts God instead of the not answered questions, what a good substitute! If there is no answer, there is of course no answer and we should put God instead the answer. With this ideas we could still believe in the God of the Rain.
Hi Pablete,
I always do my howework when I post about something. Just assuming that I am an evolution follower because I know no better is rude.
Behe’s arguments have been extensively and clearly debunked by the scientific community. If you have some counter argument to Behe’s critics we will all be delighted to ear it.
Behe’s arguments are also not a novelty, they were made before (and rejected). They have just got a lot of PR due to the political lobbing of its proponents. Remember that the evolution theory was not in a confortable position at the beginning. If it has become the main (by a very very far shot) theory is not because it was “easy”, but because it scientifically explains all the known facts without any known contradiction.
By the way, your statement making a distintion between ID and GOD is flawed. Even if strictly speaking, ID says nothing about the designer(s), they are only two possible choices:
1. God(s) (or something very much akin)
2. Extremelly skilled extraterrests
Nobody is seriously thinking in the second option, so from a practical point of view this pseudo theory is very handy to god(s) believers.
I have been following this debate for almost a year, and I still can not believe the position of the Iowa authorities. It seems that now when you run out of arguments to convince your peers, you can always convince some politics.
Cheers,
P.S.: Thank you very much for keeping your comment cold, it is very easy to run in flammes with these subjects.
