We realize that a lot of these users may want to share photos of places with the rest of the world via Google Maps and Google Earth.

Today, we’re taking a first step toward making that possible, which is why I’m happy to announce our new iPhone app. You can download it now from the App Store. Our team is working hard on an app for Android-powered devices, so stay tuned for that!

The philosophy behind the app is to keep it simple: sign in (only the first time), pick a photo from your device or take a new photo, and upload it straight to Panoramio. If available, the geoposition will be automatically set, and you can optionally add a title to the photo.

This is the first time Panoramio is releasing a mobile app, so we want to hear your comments. Please send feedback, feature requests and bugs to iphone@panoramio.com.

After that maintenance work the site will be back to normality on Tuesday around 12:00 GMT with some minor changes and removed limitations. All comments, tags and favorites will be displayed again. Also the 32 thumbnails per page will be back. You will see more photos on the map and reviewed photos will be added to Google Earth weekly. Also you will be able to upload up to 10 Mb files. However the “all” tab will disappear temporary and the popular tab and KMLs will not get new photos for 2 weeks. You can read more details about these changes in the forum.

I hope you like the changes, but please drop your opinion in the forum. Thanks for your patience!

During this period of time you will not be able to sign-in in Panoramio. This means that anything that requires to sign-in (upload photos, add a comment, delete photos, manage tags, etc) will be disabled. When you click over any of those features you will get a page with the message “Sorry, this page will not be available for the next 48 hours”. Also it wouldn’t be possible to add posts to the forum nor comments to Panoramio’s blog. Everything else in Panoramio should work normally; photo browsing, map page, personal pages, etc.

After approximately 48 hours (Tuesday September 22nd at 12:00 GMT) everything should be back to normality with some minor changes that I have explained in this post.

Sorry for the trouble, but it is something we had to do unavoidably. I am looking forward to see your newest photos on Tuesday.
