New interface for the photo page in Panoramio
Some days ago we released a major redesign of the photo page in Panoramio. The goal of the new design is to make possible to see and explore the place where the photo has been taken.
Several elements have been emphasized: the satellite image, the photos nearby and the political World map. We added a breadcrumb over the photo to clarify its location. Also now is more intuitive to add a photo to your favorites.
Immediately after the redesign we received many great suggestions to improve it and we have implemented most of them. Reported bugs have been fixed, but still the nearby photos and the breadcrumb need some tunning. Thank you for all your e-mails and the great feedback.
We wanted to release this new interface as soon as possible, but some people was surprised by the lack of previous notice. Sorry for that, next time we make a major redesign we will give notice in advance in the blog/forum and we will put it in a test page in order to collect your suggestions and detect bugs before releasing it.
Stay tunned, more changes are coming.

Your first comment by clouxing is , I’m convinced, a confirmation to my first time ever reaction to the photo descriptions of world locations. I lived in Yellowknife, NT and was immediatetly transported to the spot. Here am I , seated in a small room on Vancouver Island. what trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was kind of a surprise, but a pleasant one. I like the new interface very much.
Great job. I particularly like the new big map and—appearing today—the clickable icon of nearby photos on the map. But yesterday, I liked better the “more by ‘author,’” with the next and previous buttons, below the photo! Anyway, I find the new interface really pretty and efficient.

The most significant aspect of these new developments is that you are now talking regularly to the Panoramio user community through the discussion fora. This two-way communication will be very useful in bringing forward future developments.

We already made some minor changes in the design.
- We substituted the green pins in the map for thumbnails
- Now you can enlarge the photo directly by clicking over it
- The arrows to browse the photos from this user have a fix position
- We also added zoom controls to the political map
I am glad that now I have more time for posting in the forum and the blog.

This is a much better Interface; a more professional look to it. However the one thing I miss from the old interface is the ‘Next’ and ‘Previous’ from the selected user. This allows us toview a gallery so much easier.

No me gustó, creo que el mapa es demasiado grande (te distrae de la fotografía) y no sirve para nada. Me gustaba la función “Ver área” que ahora ya no existe.
A really nice improvement! I love going to areas I’ve photographed and now it’s easier to see photos by others taken in the same area.
I like this new design.
I think that the page could have a “subtitle” line, next to the photo, where we could tell, in few words, something more from that picture, for example:
Touristic Tramway
The new historical heritage tramway system of Santos, operating since 2000.
Today, I use to do this kind of short “subtitle” in the “comments” field, but I think that we could have a specific field to explain something more, details, etc., in an appropriate field.
Wasn’t an update of the photos planned for Jan 15th?
It’s good to see that Panoramio is in constant evolution.
I like the new interface, but I would give two sugestions to the team to consider:
1- I think it would be good to have, near the map, the old link to “visit that area” so that we could imediatelly travel to Panoramio’s world map and see all the photos, or popular, or even our own, relating to that specif area, I used to utilize that link often and I miss it, now I can only see three photos of that area, including the one in wich page I’m on.
2- I think it would be interesting to see on the interface (of our own photos only), a little counter with the number of yellow stars attributed to that specific photo, it could be on the photo details or on any other point of the page.
I don’t know if the team as access to that kind of data, but if it would be possible it would be really nice. I’m sure everyone will agree with me and would like to satisfy their curiosity about the number of yellow stars as well.

Hello!
I have an idea that Google Panoramio should select a way to get many many
photos on the Internet.
I have kml/kmz map files that is included seacoast photographs at 3900
points over in Japan.
These data on the Internet should be got to Panoramio automatically.
Please do this idea, and make Panoramio users to grow…
