Panoramio photos in Google Search
July 23rd, 2009 by Eduardo Manchón
You might have noticed it that since some weeks when you search for a location in Google search you get a map and some photos shared in Panoramio.
For example, when you search for Paris you get:

Try with other searches: Yellowstone National Park, Barcelona, New York or Moscow. It is really cool!

Folks,
This may not be the most urgent thing to come to you this millenium but…
I regularly get other members suggesting alternative locations for my photographs.
In every case so far this has arisen because the viewer making the suggestion has come along some time after I have located the photo originally and in each case has had the benefit of a lower zoom set of satelite / aerial photos than existed on Google Earth at the time I originally located my photos.
Is it worth having a notice somewhere on the screen for users to see when locating their photos, alerting them to the fact that as Google Earth updates its satelite / Aerial imagery, it cannot be guaranteed that the location ballon will remain faithfully in position and that checking every now and then to see that all locations remain accurate might be useful.
Hopefully that small piece of informaiton will also act as an alert to people who think they have spotted a picture wrongly located when all it is in the majority of occasions, is anomalies arising from the difference in Google Earth imagery or improved zoom levels being available for the locations in question.
Regards,
John Forbes
lil bridge photo is in wrong location in quesnel that is the train bridge location the foot bridge is up the fraser river . The second bridge, that is on the fraser river and not the quesnel river
Mr. Baron, you have posted a photo of my house at 30 Chemin du Pont couvert, Mansonville QC, J0E 1X0 on Google maps
This is a private house, my retreat and my sanity. Posting a photo of that house at the end of a road seems like saying “welcome tourists”.
There isn’t much to see or steal but any intrusion seems like a major violation. Traffic up to my gate has gone nuts and I have to constantly remember to close the gate or a car/truck goes over my lawn, a swampy spot this year.
All that to say, could you please remove the photo.
Thanks for your consideration
Cornelia
I found some of the photos in Google Earth. Will these photos be forever in the google earth?
Can I use these photos(from my profile) in my blogs directly?
@Cornelia
The answer is really easy: no. This picture is made from public space, nobody can be seen in the house, and this house was in service as border station, so it historical value.
Can you use other people’s photos? Google Earth and Panoramio do not hold copyright of these pictures. They belong to the photographer who is the only one to allow others to use their pictures. Permission must be received from the photographer before they are used.
Yes, Google Earth and Panoramio can be an intrusion. I try to post photos of public spaces which is often easy in Canada where there are a lot of wide open spaces. I wouldn’t post a picture of my own house, so why do people think it okay to post pictures of other people’s houses?
When will we get more contest winners’ photos posted? May was a long time ago already.
I really enjoy Panoramio!
Dear Eduardo Manchón
This question does nothing to do with the pictures but I need your help in answering a question, Well this might sound paranoid but my son who is 30 year old met a woman on-line. She wants him to visit sometime this year and he is seriously thinking about it. My question is that is their such a address as stargarder weg 4 26125 oldenburg deutschland ? I tried to Google Earth it but it only shows a street thats all. Any input would be helpful and please feel free to e-mail me at gryderironworks@yahoo.com
By the way I live in Fort Smith Arkanasa US
Thank You Levonne Gryder
