Photos from Panoramio updated in Google Earth

February 17th, 2007 by Eduardo Manchón

Today Panoramio’s layer at Google Earth was updated. Previously there were 80.000 photos from Panoramio visible in Google Earth by default, now 400.000 photos are included. There is a great chance to find photos from almost every place on Earth.

The selection of the 400.000 photos included photos until ID:655.000 (e.g. photo with URL http://www.panoramio.com/photo/385739 has ID:385739). If your photo has a higher ID than 655.000, you have to wait until next update to see your photos in Google Earth. If your photo has a lower ID, but you still don’t see it in Google Earth, probably is because that photo is not enough popular or got many negative flags from other people. If you thing that was a mistake, please contact us at questions AT panoramio.com, we will fix it ASAP.

In any case, there are two alternative ways to see your photos updated in real time; Panoramio’s map or Panoramio’s KML on Google Earth.

The update has been very late, I’m very sorry for it. It took more time than we expected since the last one (January 7th), but we hope next updates are more frequent.

The last two months the growth of Panoramio has been completely crazy. We have been dealing with a lots of scaling issues, almost every day a new one. That prevented us from making adding features people asked us. Now is time for improvements.

Enjoy!

I have put a poll on the forum but thought I should also ask you. Not expecting this now but for future thinking - can a directional arrow showing which direction the photo is looking at be possible? I was looking at some photos of volcanoes in Bolivia but it was impossible to tell from google earth which volcanoe the photo was of - it could have been 1 of 5 in any direction! Of course it may be impossible because of google earth restrictions etc. but just an idea. many thanks.

    Good job, Panoramio Team!

Hi. Beautiful pics. My father was stationed at Chambley USAF base from 1962-1965. We lived in a small village on D901 called Vigneulles. The pictures bring vivid memories. Especially those of the neighboring town with a chatel where we danced in its courtyard after climbing over the back wall. My husband and I will visit this area in a couple of years. Thanks for the tour!

Amazing. Greatest respect but a few of the Ballarat, Australia photos are slightly misplaced or mis-titled. I’ll take a few photos around Ballarat and upload them to you soon.
Thanks for this brilliant resource, and keep rockin!

Your photo of San Rafeal Beach is shown on the map of Albufiera approx. 3 to 4 Kilometres to the east of its correct location.

This is the coolest thing ever. Thanks a gazillion for providing this service! I promise to do my best to provide useful pictures. I do a lot of traveling around the US. I see you already have quite a few. The Iditarod dog race just started in Alaska (March 4 ‘07) and I took a few pictures of the ceremonial start in downtown Anchorage. Will upload them in a few days. I think you are going to be more overwhelmed than you ever imagined; I hope you can keep up!

There is a photo posted on Google Earth of a rainbow supposedly taken on Lytle Creek Rd. That’s East of Devils Tower Wyoming. In the photo the road is paved. Lytle Creek Rd. is not paved. It’s a gravel road.

    Thank you, Panoramio !

  17. 17 ferhad

How can I share my pictures at google earth? I can only see them on my computer but not on any other computer. Am I doing something wrong?

  20. 20 Ben

    Hi,

    Great site!

It’s time for another update on google earth :P

  21. 21 duperfection

You guys are really doing a great job, but I could not help but notice in pictures from around Germany, you mis title them. For example, in Freiberg am Neckar, Germany, there is a photo of the old neckar and it is labeled as being near Heutingsheim. True, Heutingsheim is a part of Freiberg a.N., but the town is named Freiberg am Neckar. Anyway the photo is actually nearer to another part of Freiberg and not Heutingsheim. Keep up the good work.

  22. 22 Loepa

I just signed up yesterday, and already uploaded 4 photos of my city (Rio de Janeiro). This idea is wonderful.

  23. 23 IH

Is there a moderator who could control the content of postings - to stop some of the blatant commercial ‘plugs’ attached to photographs? It’s a shame that such a brilliant service can be hijacked by e.g. gullet skippers promoting their services.

  24. 24 Dominik Wach

Yeap, is there any moderator? Some photos are cool but about 80% shouldn’t be uploaded at Google Earth. There should be someone (a professional photographer) who should add photos - best photos of the place, not most popular. It’s not good when you can find poor photos of beautiful places :| Panoramio & Google Earth should promote good photos, not random.

    Greetings.

I have had so much fun with Panoramio, I cannot tell you! It makes all of us amateurs feel like “pros”!

Can’t wait to see what Google will do with it!

  29. 29 TKSharpless

You have placed an awful lot of lame snapshots on Google Earth even where there are much more interesting views up on Panoramio (my panoramas around Philadelphia are just one example). Does anyone really edit the Google stuff? And why would anyone pay anyone to do that anyway? Just wondering…
