Flooding near the railway station @ Whitby 5th Dec 13

This series of images records the recent floods in my home town and they will remain here for a while, but since they are of limited interest to most viewers and rather mediocre in quality, it is my intention to remove them sooner or later. If you have an opinion regarding this, please feel free to express it since I might be persuaded to keep one or two!--------------------

Normally, this open area is thronging with people, day and night.. Since this flat expanse of water is such a rare event, the town looks strangely surreal ;)--------------------------

Immediately to the right of this shot, within a hundred metres, is the harbour, but there are no defining edges to indicate its boundaries. The boats are floating higher than the shops. Shortly after this photo was taken, the town was plunged into darkness due to water in the main supply.---------------

The "yacht sails", adjacent to Trenchers now "wet" fish n' chip shop, is in-fact a piece of "public art" in the form of a stainless steel sculpture in the shape of "Yacht Sails". This nautically themed centre feature sits on top of the submerged mini round-about.---------------------

The red stripe through the shot is evidence of a passing emergency services lorry with its tail lights on! and the shimmering red light (a most attractive phenomena) was caused by the vehicles wheels as they splashed through the water.------------------

It now transpires that this flood has caused millions of £££££ worth of damage locally and many of these homes and businesses will be affected for many months to come. Fortunately, no lives were lost.
