As shown in http://www.panoramio.com/photo/10028371 the town of Palmeira dos Índios lies in the transition between the moist agreste and dry sertão. This view shows BR-316 leaving Palmeira dos Índios and the little "point" of agreste on which it lies. The zones become very clear if you zoom out on the map on this page or look on Google Earth.
The sertão in 2007 had unusually heavy rainfall and was very green. This view at other times might be largely brown with green patches.
