Hi Gerry. Is it common for geese to be on seashores? I have rarely seen Canadian geese land on the beach here. Nice photo. Larry

Thanks folks. It was shot last February and they were doing their best to avoid me. They are quite at home on the beach, the grass and on the water. They arrived in huge numbers last winter and certainly made their presence known. Nice to see them but I don't think the golf course green keepers would have been to happy with their 'deposits'!

Really good one, Gerry. They look so excited, just like tourists let off the bus! But they are not Snow Geese (which are white). And neither are they Canada Geese, Canadian or otherwise. They are Brent Geese (I had to look them up though!) It's possible they might be Canadian Brent Geese, but my guess is they are Irish ;) Cheers!

Yes N, they are 'Brent Geese' but they are not Irish! They are gone now (since about March). They come from Arctic Canada and Greenland. info here from Bird Watch Ireland. G

I stand corrected! Ah, they are winter visitors! Our winter visitors are Snow Geese and they return to Wrangel Island, Russia, in the summer. They don't hang out on the beach though -- they head straight for the farmer's fields.

Great shot Gerry, and I appreciate the info from everyone. We enjoy watching the birds a great deal but they certainly don't have these fellows in these parts! One thing I noticed about this shot that is very lovely is that it is made up almost entirely of shades of browns and blues. Very pleasing to the eye. Nice capture. Bruce

Greetings GIE, What a mob on the beach. I imagine the children would have fun feeding and running with them while they visit. And the waves will wash away the left behinds ;-))>

Cheers,

Rich
