Kathy, At one time, the trail used to be all cleared out down there by the stairs, and they were put there for people to just get in the water and play or fish. When we still had park rangers down there, they kept the grass cut and we had picnic tables in that clearing and all. It was so nice. Now they've pretty much let it all grow up, but it was just another place to enjoy. The trail also goes way up high along that mountain, and you can see all the way down to the park from up there. You should walk it too one day. It's called "The Long Leaf Loop." There used to be two old cabins down there. People actually lived in them years ago, but not anymore. There is also an old well back up in there, so be careful. I'm glad to see that you're exploring the park! Continue on! :)
