Yes, she is one of the most famous American Painters. She often painted this flower. Your beautiful photo reminded me of her art.

Hello Rosina, sometimes I delete longer messages after I know people have already read them. That way, the string of replies stays shorter and doesn't take up so much room when someone else comments on the picture.

rosina lamberti, on March 25, 2007, said:

Hi Eve do u know the correct name of this flower Thanks Rosina

Eve in Montana, on March 26, 2007, said:

Hi Rosina, It's hard to say without seeing the entire plant, but it looks like a species of Datura, which is in the Nightshade family (Solanaceae). Maybe this one? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datura_wrightii Plants in the genus Datura are usually poisonous, but closely related to plants we eat, like tomato and potato....

EcologistGreg, on March 27, 2007, said:

Hi Rosina

This is part of the flower of the Angel's Trumpet, a shrub in the Solanaceae (as Eve pointed out already). The scientific name is Brugmansia, and the species is probably B. suaveolens, which is commonly cultivated in frost-free parts of Australia. I used to have a great specimen of this in my garden at Grafton. Cheers

Greg

Eve in Montana, on March 27, 2007, said:

Nice to learn something. I wondered since the flowers appeared to be drooping rather than erect, as they are in Datura. Funny, I have a picture of my Daughter standing next to this plant in Italy, you have it in Australia, yet Brugmansia is native to South America!

rosina lamberti, on March 27, 2007, said:

Thanks again Greg and Eve I have renamed it, I photographed it in the Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne only 2 weeks ago, Thanks again

Eve in Montana, on March 27, 2007, said:

It is barely spring here, and I nearly forgot that it is almost fall for you. I hope to take a vacation in the southern Hemisphere this year, to see what it feels like to be in opposite seasons, even for a short amount of time.

EcologistGreg, on March 28, 2007, said:

Hi Eve

I would recommend coming to Australia in your summer, because for most of the parts of Australia our winter is still mostly warm like the northern inland USA.

Coming in your winter to our summer would be a very big shock. My uncle came from Belgium last week, leaving Brussels at 3 degrees C and arriving to Sydney at 37 degrees C.

And yes, as you pointed out, it's nearly autumn (as we call Fall).

Cheers

Greg

Hi Eve I agree with greg, we have had a long hot, dry summer, even though its quite cool to nite, days are still warm, come and visit Melbourne

Cheers Rosina

Eve in Montana, on March 29, 2007, said:

Would love to visit Australia sometime. My office mate spent two months there during your winter a couple of years ago and couldn't say enough about how great she thought it was!

Hi Eve and Rosina

I have just been adding more plant pics. Come on over for a look.

Excellent idea! I used to see them near the house of my grandmother. Unfortunately it´s a long time now I don't come across this plant... If I do, I'll shot them for sure! ;-)

Hi Eve (and sorry Rosina for using your pic to catch her!)

Reading the earlier comments in this thread I see you not only cut back some comments, but also sometimes post and then delete. Pity, I thought you'd chosen a couple of nice pics to comment on: [the grass - nineawns] (http://www.panoramio.com/photo/1849751) and [slender chickweed] (http://www.panoramio.com/photo/1838474)

Cheers

Rosina! Thank you very much by your commentary. Your Angel’s Trumpet also she is very beautiful. In this part of Colombia, Norte de Santander, to the tree that produces that flower, the farmers call “borrachero”, has a strong fragrance not very pleasant, and takes with him a legend or belief of Biblical origin. The people thinks that in that tree Judas was hung itself, and for that reason their fruits are unsuitable, damn, no species consumes them; although the flower that procreates them is so beautiful.

Special greeting from Colombia, Silvano.

Superb Photo. The original and best!

One good thing that has come out of this little commotion is that I have found your great photo.

I am missing the forum where we used to share good ideas and point out good photos. It is not really possible to use the Panoramio Blog for this and comments posted on individual photos are only be seen by a few people.

rosina lamberti, on June 21, 2007, said:

Hi Douglas thanks for your comments l'm with you about the forum :)

Does anyone has any ideia of when the Forum will be up again?

Beautiful photo Rosina. I wish we could get a new forum, too. Maybe when Google takes over, they'll add us to the Google Earth forum (it's better than Panoramio's old PHPbb version).

rosina lamberti, on June 30, 2007, said:

hi chip, l think the forum will be back this week

Cheers rosina :)

Yeah, me too. On and off all day today, and last night, too. Also some uploading problems, but it seems to be working now.
