Thanks, Tom - it's a a wonderful avenue - about a mile and a half long, but very frustrating to photograph - the trees are +/- 200 years old and reaching the end of their natural lives - as the avenue borders a road, they have to bew cut down when they start dying so getting a run of good shapes in good light with no gaps and no road-signs is surprisingly difficult!

Intriguing shot, Graham. Magnificent trees, but in some way they almost look computer generated in in this picture!
Graham Hobbs, on May 18, 2008, said:
Well, Snemann - it its quicker than growing new ones (see reply to tom above). Seriously, it's a perfectly straight photograph, not even HDR, and with minimal processing - just enough to get JPEG looking the same as original RAW - I think we're just not used to seeing (a) so much regularity in nature (the avenue was planted)and (b) light striking trees almost from below, which is a combination of time of day and topography - but I suppose that's what made me take it ith e first place. Thanks, as always, for your comments. Graham
AXOTA, on May 23, 2008, said:
Well Graham, I have to say that this is the finest avenue of trees ever. I can imagine the pleasure you had when the early morning rays of sunlight lit up this beautiful woodland to create this stunning image. It truly is magnificent.
Great photo and is saved to my faves.
Cheers.
Jim
Graham Hobbs, on May 24, 2008, said:
Thanks a lot Jim - I dont know if you read the comments above, but these trees are reaching the end of their life span, which is terrible - a lot of holes have appeared in the avenue even since we've been here. The National Trusts has planted another avenue, further out, but the trees aren't growing that brilliantly, and they'll never close over the road like this, so there's almost a mission to capture it while we can. Best regards, Graham

Hello Graham, you have many nice photos. This especially the trees have personality. Greetings Ørnér
Graham Hobbs, on June 4, 2008, said:
Thanks Josep, thanks Ørnér - you will see from other comments on this and other pictures that i feel a sort of duty to get nice pictures of these trees which are reaching the end of their natural life span and will have to be cut down as they die off because of danger to the traffic - it's a great shame, but it is wonderful that through panoramio, people all over the world can enjoy a bit of joy of them. Fantastic lighting and composition here Graham. It's nice to see someone else see's trees in the same light as myself. (Forgive the pun). You have a great gellery here. Thanks too for your nice comments on my collection. Herb
Graham Hobbs, on June 11, 2008, said:
You know, Herb one of the things I like about Panaramio is the access to so much photography by so many people - in cases where people see things the same way as you (and I agree, you and I favour the same types of images) both can learn a lot from one another, and you get new ideas to experiment with from people with a different style - the problem for me is not to spend so much time broswing other people's pictures that I forget to take my own! Best regards, Graham

Graham I applaud your 'tree photos'! This one is special and must be the road to an ancient castle! Best regards from Cape Town! Johan
Graham Hobbs, on October 10, 2008, said:
thanks Kietzi63 - I asked the trees where they were but they didn't want to be too hasty in replying, and I couldn't wait... thanks for the YS - appreciated.
Johan - the trees were aculally planted by the owner of Kingston Lacy, down the road, but if you look at the map, there's an old iron-age hill fort (clump of trees with rings round it) just to the north, and drought time aerial photos show old Roman roads - so there's plenty of archeology to show a lot has happened over the years. Thanks for your comments. Graham

Much appreciated, Samantha - it took me a while to get used to having to deal with all the people and traffic here again after having spent a number of years in South Africa - I needed to get used to blanking those things out again to get the feel of places - but I'm belatedly enjoying photgraphing all the wonderful things Dorset has to offer. This picture is very beautiful! What kind of photographing one is necessary to the completion of a picture like this? For me only single Panasonic TZ-there are 2, i guess it little to it. Although it is possible to make beautiful pictures with him according to me. Sorry I write for the mistakes, with a web translator. Hi:Tamás
Graham Hobbs, on June 9, said:
I don't know what model TZ you've got Tamás - but as long as you have some control over depth of field via the aperture (landscape mode), and preferably a tripod for help with composition and image sharpness, you'd probably have taken the same picture if turned round and seen the view like I did - the most difficult part was getting up at 5.30 in the morning :)

Thanks Alan - good to hear from you :)
Thanks Cindy - this was only one of two times I got there before 6am - and the other turned out foggy - but I've taken hundreds of pictures of this avenue, so at least I know what is likely to suit what time of day - but you never really know till you get out and walk - but then again, I'm now looking for something different rather than something classic or beautiful, so ... let me know if you get anything good - I've only scratched the surface, I know that - bit of a ramble, sorry! :)
