It also makes me think how there are lots of old stone buildings still in use today, and they'll probably still be in use in another hundred years. You're right in that these old castles have outlived their usefulness, but in medieval times they were of great importance and nowadays they are still witnesses of times long gone. I like visiting them and learning how people used to live in those times. And I imagine how difficult it must have been to build these castles with very simple means! It seems like a miracle to me.
