Mt Kinabalu Mesilau Valley -Sabah Nov 2013-20

Lithophytic habitat in conditions where rocks and water flow maintain a break in the tree canopy, hence higher light and high humidity due to evaporation directly off water and warmer rock surfaces. These conditions are favorable to many species, though it is clear to see that shade offered by the few shrub and tree species, offers a respite from stresses that bare rock in full sun with minimal substrate present. During storm events many plants are washed off the rock surfaces, with only those that have developed sufficiently robust attachment and foliage capable of surviving buffeting by water, successfully remaining intact.
