Oriental Theatre

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Ford Center For Performing Arts- The Oriental Theatre opened in 1926 as one of many ornate movie palaces built in Chicago during the 1920s by the firm Rapp and Rapp. It was built on the same location as the former Iroquois Theatre (later the Colonial Theatre) site of a disastrous 1903 fire that claimed over 600 lives, although the outer facade looks identical, and despite statements to the contrary, the Oriental retained nothing from the building that once stood on the same site. today the Oriental is operated by Broadway In Chicago, a subsidiary of the Nederlander Organization. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as New Masonic Building and Oriental Theater. The theatre was restored in the 1990's.

I'd say it was quite a bit snowy, Mike! Did you see "Ghost"... How was it? You got some nice theater pics. When we went to see "Book of Morman", they stopped me from taking any pics of the interior. I hope the snow didn't spoil your day!

Best regards, Marlene

Yes, wife loved the show. And the snow was a bit much, especially on the skyway on way back to Merrilville, but being from Buffalo originally, it didn't ruin the day. I had no problems from anyone about taking pictures, was told not to take any during the performance.
