I have repositioned on the map to better reflect the position of the camera. Thanks to member Stoutfellow.
This street(as you probably know already!) is James Street and the school at the top of the road is Elswick Road Junior School(since demolished, as is half of the street). I lived there from birth until I was 17. I lived at number 4, which is to the right of the nearest car on the right. Nice one Steve, cracking photo. All the best.
Thank you Martyw, I took this photo, one of my first black and white photographs, with my first camera. Thank you also for the additional info, which I shall add to the title. I hope the position in Google Earth is also correct. If not could you possibly let me know.
just like to say wow great picture..brings back so many happy memory's..i lived in james street from the age of 2, until 19, We lived at number 11 on the left hand side..just found your picture by chance. & it made me smile..Wondered if you had anymore from james street or northbourne street. They were the best times..Great photo..The position is abit out, so i have pin pointed exactly where it was..keep up the fab work .
Hi Sharoncait thank you for your comment. I am pleased it brings back such memory's for you. Photo sites like this can act like mini time machines taking folks back into their earlier days. As yet I have not recieved your relocation adjustment, perhaps this is due to panoramio's spam problems over the last few days. Perhaps you could try again in a week or so once they have sorted these problems out. Stephen
Hi SteveT. Hope you and the other contributers are still looking at this periodicaly. I was born in James Street in 1960 at No. 12. I attended Elswick Road School until I left to go to Comprehensive School. The even numbers of the street have all been demolished now along with the whole of neighbouring Northbourne Street. Some of the odd numbered houses are still standing. We moved into West View in the late 60's and my first flat that I lived in when I left home was in Northbourne Street. I have many happy memories ot this area of the West End and still have friends who I grew up with all those years ago. I'm sure I have some old photographs somewhere and if I ever find them will upload them here.
