I first visited Praia da Alvor in 1982. Just a bit back from the beach were several, very modern looking, high-rise buildings, and huge concrete foundations for new, large-scale developments. 23 years later, nothing had changed. Sadly, the beach-bar, which was just a wooden shack with a straw roofed terrace in 1982, has been replaced by, what appears to be, air-conditioned Portakabins.
