The houses are gone now because the area is now a wildlife refuge, but she often talks about buzzing about in his little boat and fishing with him in places like this. These are great images Hank. As the crow flies, Bruce Island Park is about 12 miles and two bridges to the East.

First you cross this (Marine Parkway) bridge and it takes you to the Rockaways (south from where the shot was taken), and then through those beach areas (including the famous Jacob Riis Park) to the Atlantic Beach Bridge. Then continuing east through a couple of more beaches to the Long Beach area, and you're in Island Park.

A side note about the Atlantic Beach Bridge. It was the toll booth at this bridge where Sonny Corleone was killed in the "Godfather."
