Passenger boat departing Leirvik.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Leirvik is the centre of the municipality of Stord in Hordaland, Norway. Leirvik is also the regional centre of Sunnhordland, and has many public services and offices such as the regional court and the Sunnhordland Folkemuseum.
Leirvik is also a shopping centre in the region of Sunnhordland with many restaurants, and a very popular harbour in the summer. The town does not offer a great deal in terms of shops or nightlife.
Confusingly, when the municipality of Stord declared township, they decided to name the town Stord. Even though this is the official name, the public acceptance of this is minimal, so the name of the urban community remains Leirvik.
People in Stord actually refer to Leirvik by the name 'Vikjo' rather than Leirvik.

Sure, I know the place is called Leirvik, but it's not exactly wrong to say Stord. I was referring to the boat leaving the island of Stord, not the town of Leirvik.
