Today is a sad day in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn. The woman who owned and operated this dry cleaners was murdered. A kind neighbor who noticed that the store was open early this morning at 8:30 yet Linda, the owner, was not to be found in the store. He saw her pocketbook on the counter and went in to see if everything was OK. He found her in the bathroom. Some low-life was casing her store. She actually went to a deli down the street telling them that some guy was standing outside her store and he looked suspicious—asking whether she should call the police. Rather than get into the gruesome way she passed. I'd like to say that she was a good neighbor; she lived across the hall from me for a couple of years. If you gave her shirts to dry clean your address including apartment number was written on your ticket before you could even utter it from your mouth. She had an impeccable memory. She emigrated from South Korea and she was always pleased when I thanked in Korean. She was always well dressed and in her early 50s. She really liked flowers. A neighbor of mine said that she was speaking to her yesterday about flowers. I am sad for her and her family. When she lived across from she took good care of her ailing husband who had a lung condition. I only knew her little but I remember her as a really nice woman. I hope the guy that did this rots in a privatized prison. She did not deserve this. She was polite and civilized. It's a very sad day in Windsor Terrace.

I saw this on the news last night, and recognized the corner store this morning immediately when I saw your photo.

I think it is kind of you to remember her, and to eulogize her in this way.

Well thank you Hank. This was my only way to process what happened to her. My uncle Mel was shot in his jewelry store in 1980 in the Stapleton section of Staten Island and this event brought it all back. I walked over to the store earlier, re-lit the candle someone placed next to the store. Police tape is gone and it was strange to look in the store--her things are still there. A couple of weeks ago a deli on Prospect Park West and 16th was held up at gun point. The guy who works there was really shaken. The gunman got $200. I don't know if crime is going up but I do know that Windsor Terrace has the lowest crime rate in all of NYC. It's a cop and fireman neighborhood.

HI Chris! I was really pleased to see there where new pics of you on Panoramio, but with every word of your text my anger was growing! You know this can happen to everyone, but why does it happens? Often done by 100% losers, no good for nothing. I hope he gets ill in a way he will die slowly. Sorry to put it this way, but thats how i feel.

You gave the lady a "In Memoriam" for the whole world to see, thanks pal!

Gr, Ed.

Hi Ed, These can happen to anyone, true. But as the economy goes down, crime goes up especially with the food price hikes. And Brooklyn has a shrinking middle class. Not disagreeing that this killer clearly is despicable but unfortunately statistic show that crime is higher when the economy is faultering. Wait until the price of a barrel of oil goes over $200. What will the SUV-driving American do when they can't drive around within their living rooms. In 1998 the price for a barrel was $10.98. Cheerful times. Oh your daughter socializes well on the interwebs (a Bushism/he thinks there is more than one). I commented on Pukkie. Cheers, Chris

Word on the street — the police may have a suspect. I haven't read or heard it in the news. Do take this with a grain of salt. Some of what I heard on the street, the first time, was wrong. Linda had been killed the night before. Not the morning of the day I put up the photo. Also Friday night 3 guys held up the pharmacy on Prospect Park W./Windsor Pl....This just in, Phil is telling me, a deli had their lotto tickets stolen. And neighbors want to organize a vigil/rally at Linda's dry cleaning store. Appreciate the people we have daily transactions with like at your coffee shop, deli, butcher, dry cleaner.

Post Tue May 20, 08 9:02 am EST Reply with quote Hello. I found this forum via a google search I was doing for news about this sickening crime. Linda was my Aunt (my Mom's older sister). Our family is completely devastated, especially my Mom. She was my Mom's best friend, her only confidante, and they spoke for hours every day. My Mother is just so distraught.

It just hurts us so, b/c my Aunt ran a dry cleaning business in Brooklyn for as long as I've been alive... all day, practically every day, for 20 years. She cared for my Uncle who is in a wheelchair & disabled. She has 3 grandchildren, which she will never get to see grow up. She had all these plans with my Mom to retire and travel together... for the first time. She never even had a chance to go back to Korea and see her family.

It sickens me what happened to her. The police, as of last night, hasn't given my cousins (Linda's sons) any details about the arrest. The family, is however, overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. There were over 200 people at the services, and we are so comforted knowing that she was cared by so many.

Please continue to support and protect your neighborhood businesses. Keep an eye out for each other.
