In Tulu it is called or Bimbuli and in Konkani it is called Bimbli. This fruit is used to add sourness to food. It grows on the Konkan coast, and most likely was introduced by the Portuguese/Goan sailors from Malacca (Malaysia) where it is called Bilimbi. It is related to the star-fruit (carambola) which also grows in the area. Carambola is also a Malay word.
