This school building was built in the mid 1800s with a legacy from Alexander Milne, an ex-servant from the Gordon Castle at Fochabers. It was a secondary school up to the mid 1980s when a new Milne's High School was built on another site in the town. The Primary School had been located in 'temporary' accommodation to the left of this building for many years. During the 1990s, after a long campaign, the then Grampian Region Education Authority agreed to completely renovate the interior of the building to make it the present Milne's Primary School. It is, without doubt, one of the more magnificent Primary Schools in Moray, if not in the whole of Scotland. My late wife was Head Teacher in the period 1985 to 2000 when she retired, and died of cancer in 2002. I still live in the Schoolhouse, the edge of which can be seen to the left of the school building, just above the top left corner of the name board.

My ancestors are from close to Fochabers on the Spey River. I wonder if Alexander is one of my ancestors. I am in the process of trying to track my ancestors from the 1700's and early 1800's. The picture of the school looks lovely. Michael H. Milne Yarker, Ontario, Canada
