For what ever reason, this photo has had the most "hits" on Panoramio? Navel left overs from the base operations from '38-'45. The debris is made up of mostly old metal items. After the owners regained title to the property from the Navy, a salvage company came in and cleaned up the majority of Naval Artifacts. Most that remains are the remnants of the old concrete bunkers which there are many lasting structures. The wood structures are all gone and only remnants of the old machine shed near the Cooper Camp is left. What ever might of been bad in this junk seems to be long gone as Palmyra recaptures it's hold on the atoll. The picture is more shocking then it is detrimental to the Atoll ecosystem. I added this picture only because I was shocked when I first viewed first hand all this "stuff". One of Palmyra's #1 pristine beaches is only mere feet to the left of this picture adjacent to East Lagoon.
