Widgeon Marsh

Looking northerly; Widgeon Creek valley on the left. Owned by the Silver Valley Gun Club from around 1917 until 1948 as a hunting grounds, then sold to the McLellan family for logging. They fell in love with the area and decided to keep it as a hunting retreat. Acquired in 1992 by Metro Vancouver Parks, the 661 Ha., Widgeon Marsh regional park reserve borders on the largest freshwater tidal marsh in North America. It protects open lowlands and coastal rainforest slopes, that lead to spectacular mountainous ridges. Note the wood ducks boxes, that are scattered along the bank of the slough.
