Hello Christian, GBTA, and Mary Alice. This photo was taken in 1989 on our vacation in the Cévennes region in France. Have you ever been there Christian? It has a wild beauty: the rocky and forbidding high plains of Mont Lozère and Causse Méjean bordered by mountains, gorges and canyons. Mary Alice, you will find abandoned farms here, but also deserted villages.
Never seen such horses before, they were very dark brown without any grey or white spots, and their mouth was rather wide. Being curieux, I performed a Google search trying to determine the breed of this foal. You'll be surprised to learn how many breeds of horses there are, breeds, sub-breeds and sub-sub-breeds. I think this species is a wild horse related to the steppes Tarpan, a breed having it's origin in Khirgizia, Central Asia. But if there is a judge of horseflesh out there, let him come forward and telleth us the truth.
Salutations, Claus
