This is the Mexico-USA border fence (built by USA), seen from the Mexican side, in Playas de Tijuana (“Beaches of Tijuana”), the seaside district of Tijuana, Baja California Norte, Mexico. The other side of the fence is San Diego County, California, USA. Nowadays nobody is allowed to cross the border here. In this area the fence allows some view of each side, but in other zones the fence is a full metallic barrier. Here it goes on the beach and into the ocean.

You ask: how long is the part like that?

Well, I've seen the fence or barrier between Tijuana - Playas de Tijuana (Mexico side), and San Ysidro - Border Field State Park (USA side); this is about 9 km (5.6 miles). But it goes on, much more to the east.

In this section that I've seen (Tijuana/San Diego/San Ysidro to Pacific Ocean), most of the fence is a full metalic barrier (like my photo, # 10427507). The last section on the very beach and into the ocean, it is this kind of poles or vertical bars that you see here; this is some 140 m (150 yards), according to Google Earth measuring tool.

Around the monument in Playas de Tijuana, and in front of the bullfight arena, (see my photos # 10426890 and # 10427151), the fence is a net that allows view of each side. This part with net is about 220 m (240 yards).

According to Wikipedia, the border between the United States and Mexico is 3141 km (1,952 miles) long. There are plans to build a complete fence all the way of the 3141 km between San Diego/Tijuana (at the Pacific Ocean) and Brownsville/Matamoros (at the Gulf of Mexico).

They should electrify the fence to keep them out. That way they can't come here and breed.
