Hi Kasia,

Things are well thanks. :) We had a funnel cloud this past week here in NY. A funnel cloud is in essence a tornado that doesn't touch the ground. Last year we had a tornado that hit down in Staten Island and then in Brooklyn just south of my home. The last I remember was in 1989. And because of that tornado, insurance companies are dropping Brooklyn residence for flooding. Insurance companies are doing that to any place that has the possibility of severe weather. I think if you live in the Colorado Rockies you can get hurricane insurance. Which country in the world has the most tornadoes in ratio to the country's land size?

Chris, sorry somehow missed your news. Wow, that is some cloud. Glad I wasn't anywhere around. There aren't that many tornadoes in Europe. The US having the most of all countries. But according to Wikipedia the Netherlands has most funnel clouds per sq. km, then the UK which surprised me. We've just had two days of almost non-stop rain including a pretty bad storm but nothing like that cloud! Wishing you a good, safe week. Kasia

Hi Kasia,

I do miss people's comments all the time. Now I feel less awful. (Went to Catholic school [nuns].) I reply mostly by looking at the comments when I (I've never had to figure out with words for this), but...go into Panoramio or sign in, but I don't sign in, oohh I got it...turn on my computer and hit Firefox. (These are better words! ;-}) [Panoramio is my main page when I go onto the internet.] {Creepy,...I just felt like I am in a Sci-Fi movie from the past.} Orwell warned us of Totalitarian Governments but it is commerce in some weird way that has become Big Brother. My point being is...that I rarely reply in panoramio through emails and I miss replies as result. I have a cell (mobile) and I am a texter. LOOVVVE ITTT. So since I rely on looking at comments or conversations on my page, I sometimes miss as well. I absolve you, since I make the same sin. Anyhoo, Thanks for commenting and checkin' in on me! Really good of you. Now I will really reply: I did not know that the Netherlands, we must, and I mean must, inform Wil en Ed or just plain ole Ed of this fact, that the country has more tunnel clowds anywhere on the earth, which is good because funnel clouds since they don't touch down, don't do any or much damage. It is true that the US has the most in total numbers, but in sq./km it is the UK. I guess that would be ratio. (Completely surprised me too. Crazy?) I hope that I am getting this right....Phil would know better than me on this subject. (He's sleeping.) I'll ask him tomorrow night. I am doing jury duty tomorrow (part of democracy where I like the idea but not the task, but has to be done), hence duty. (You know that already, but like an American, obvious and redundant. LOL) But law is interesting....right? I believe one of the only portions of where Welsch words exist in the English language like: Break and Entre or Assault and Battery, where the Welsch word is preceded the latin word that means the same thing. How's that for redundancy?

Wish me luck... :-)

Hate texting... Thanks for the absolution;-) Never thought of the redundancy around assault and battery or break and enter before... "Welsch" is a German word that originally meant foreign or strange, though now refers more to Romanic peoples or things. In Bavarian there is a certain style of church tower called a Welsche Haube or Welsch Bonnet (Hat). I'll have to see if I've got a shot of one some where. I hope fulfilling your democratic duty wasn't too honorous! Kasia

Hi Kasia,

I love texting. You get your point across in a quick manner. But I can understand why you might not like it because people can chat with other people not there, but someplace else, while they are with someone already there. That annoys me about texting. I don't do that. Might read a text but will respond when I step away from a conversation. I had no idea Welsch was actually a German word..., but is it a Germanic language, not sure if it is related to Celtic languages, although I have always thought that Welsch was most unrelated to Scottish or Irish. Performing my democratic duty turned out to be quite entertaining. The judge made me feel quite confident in my part of the world, Brooklyn. He was clearly articulate, but he really took control of his court with personality. He was very aware that most did not, some did, want to be picked for a case. When they had hesitation in their voice, he grilled them with question of whether they really could not be biased. The case involves a loaded handgun, and my uncle was killed in 1980, while reaching for his own handgun in his jewelry store. Shot several times in his chest. I did not feel I could be open minded to this case. I answered with the fewest words (Should be ironic to you.), but direct and he asked me few questions and dismissed me from the case. Not for another six years for the next the courts call on me. So I guess I did my duty, but not too honorous. Met some interesting people and got a view of downtown Brooklyn to lower Manhattan and the East River that I had never seen before. It was only recently built, the court house, in the late 90s. I wished that I'd brought my camera, but didn't think it appropriate. I saw for the first time, the Waterfalls Project, man-made waterfalls along the East River. So it wasn't so bad.
