Considerably modified in the 19th Century with the addition of large windows and tall towers, the castle of Menthon was first built as a squat fortress in the early middle ages on foundations of an older fort dating back to pre-Roman times. The name Menthon is derived from old Gaulish men-dun which means "stone fort" ...
