We spent a day here in 2005. It is a typical picuresque German village but with the most evil of pasts. The towers and fence have been left to give you a sense of what it was like during the Iron Curtain Days. The village was literally cut in two with relatives not being able to even yell hello to each other without fear of prison. I came away with a stronger feeling of freedom than I have had in my whole life.

I'm curious. Is this tower still standing because it makes a convenient cell phone relay site? That would be perfectly ironic if it were true, using a relic of a regime which suppressed communications to enhance communications.
