View of the Externsteine
Neim,My June CONTEST
The Externsteine "stones of the Egge mountains" in the Teutoberger Wald (forest) are formed from the lower Cretaceous Osning sandstone deposited 120 million years ago along the shoreline of a large ocean. The horizontal sediments were folded during an orogenic event about 70 million years ago (Tertiary) which tilted the rocks so that they are now vertical. Erosion of softer sedimentary rocks has left the present day bizarre sandstone structure.

Greetings Barbara, Thank you for the visits and all the wonderful comments. How was your weekend. I hope you enjoyed beautiful autumn weather. We had our first dustings of snow in the high country. The mountains were beautiful. I like your rock formation. There has been a lot of work done on it over the years and now it looks to be a fun attraction. Thank you for sharing. Take care and have a great week. Cheers, Rich
