THE TOWER OF KREIZKER CHAPEL, SAINT POL DE LEON, BRITTANY.

The main town of Leon is Brest, which was a French military creation, but the spiritual heart is Kastell-Paol (Saint Pol de Leon), the episcopal see.

One of the symbol of the town, except the cathedral, is the tower of the (quite small) chapell of Kreizker (= downtown). It is 77 meters high, built in XIVth century after the civil war, then destroyed many times by calamities such as lightning, norman or english troops, and rebuilt always higher ! It seems the people of Leon country have the reputation to be very proud ;-)

From the top of the tower, the valorous pilgrim who will be able to climb the 163 steps will discover a wonderful panorama, as the tower is not far from the sea.

TOUR DE LA CHAPELLE DU KREIZKER, SAINT POL DE LEON, FINISTERE.

Un des symboles du Léon, la tour de la chapelle du Kreisker élance fièrement ses 77 m de dentelles de pierre au dessus du sol. (mais dans le Léon, fait on les choses d’une autre manière que fièrement). La ville épiscopale de Saint Pol de Léon parfois surnommée « la ville sainte » était jusqu’à la révolution la capitale spirituelle de cette maaaagnifiiique contrée.

La chapelle a été édifiée au XIVe siècle, sous le règne du duc Jean IV, un duc qui ne se voulait ni Français, ni Anglais, mais Breton, et détruite par les normands puis les anglais avant d’être reconstruite au XVe sicle, qui fut l’âge d’or de la Bretagne.
