This is an excellent example of a nineteenth century wooden grandstand. The Gilbert Fraser reserve has long been used for football and cricket. However, every Easter volunteer firemen from across the state use the grounds for specialised competitive events

Behind can be seen the tower of Hillcrest. It was built as part of a private residence in the 1890s. During the twentieth century it became adapted for use as a convalescent hospital by the Salvation Army. In 2008 the old building is part of a privately owned facility caring for the aged.
