Sadly this waterbody fails a quality assessment due to ongoing drainage from old flooded mine workings and dissolution of the spoil heaps which litter the area. A lead smelter used to reside at this locality. Despite appearances the water is toxic with 179ug/l total lead at this point(annual average Environmental Quality Standard (AA-EQS) = 7.2ug/l). Zinc 122ug/l (AA-EQS = 50ug/l). Cadmium 1.1ug/l (AA-EQS = 0.08ug/l). Further info and OS mapping of the old workings locations available at website by SEPA
