Maybe someone familiar to Hong Kong can check the position in the map, please.
I am not at all familiar with Hong Kong, but I compared the shooting angle with that of the picture "Hong Kong by night 2006" by a certain Florian Lobinger, which on Google Earth is situated about 500 yards NNW of yours. Part of that photograph appears to show approximately the same area as yours, although its centre line is a little more to the left from that of yours. However, its vantage point would appear to be a lot higher than your historical picture: although both pictures were shot using lenses with similar focal lengths, the 2006 picture covers a lot more ground than this one. My conclusion would be that the placemark (shooting location) for your picture probably ought to be roughly 1200 yards to the north of its present position in GE. IF, of course, Florian's placemark is accurate!
You may want to use the "Ruler" tool in GE to pinpoint a viable location thereabouts and then find that same location in Panoramio.
Regardless of correct positioning this is a superb photo, I love the ability to compare an historic shot like this against a photo taken yesterday from the same spot. Thanks for posting.
Totally agree! I got too absorbed by the technicalities at the time to look at the picture from that viewpoint (no pun intended).
Very very good!!!!
Its incredible :)
