This area forms one of the principal watersheds of England since the Rivers Goyt, Dane, Dove and Manifold all rise here, the first two flowing into the Irish Sea (West Coast) and the last two into the North Sea (East Coast). So if the rain falls on this side of the hill it's going to Liverpool and if it falls the other side it's going to Hull.
