Seeing the double-humped Mount Diablo on the horizon when one crests the final hill headed west into the Central San Joaquin Valley is always stunning. Diablo itself is an anomaly, rising far above anything around it, and is used by surveyors and cartographers as an east-west marker known on maps as "The Diablo Meridian."
