You've got some great macro and nature shots Jean. How did you manage to get so close? Or did you use an ultra zoom? Regardless, this is great shot you can see the look of exhaustion on her face.
Paul, I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 that has a pretty good zoom, the best I have ever had. I am enjoying it trememdously. I also get pretty close as the raccoons live nearby here in the woods and come for regular visits. This photo was taken from about 12 feet away. Thanks for your compliments. Greetings, Jean
Yes, Dianne, they are friendly. I have heard of them being made into pets but they are still wild animals so I don't do that. But they act so much like maybe a cross between cat and dog. So nice - if you keep your garbage out of their reach othewise they scatter it everywhere. I think you would enjoy them too. (And no, I am not brave! I have been observing the raccoon families for years now so I know what not to do and what I can safely do.)
I'm wondering Jean that they are so close to you.
Can you touch them ? They seem so lovely. Here we can see them only in the Zoo...
You have a great gallery Jean. Thank you for sharing.
Jacques, I suppose that I could if I wanted to. But they are wild animals so I only observe from a distance. When they seem to want to approach, and one does once in a while, I startle them to let them know that touching is off limits. They are very social animals. I have heard of raccoons as pets but that is not for me.
These days, I am feeling very lucky to be in NC. Thanks for your compliments, Alfred. Greetings to you in Germany!
Again this nice animal! :-) I put you in my favorites and hope soon to find more time and come back here to see more of your gallery!
My best wishes, Mimi
Mimi, thank you! I'd like to see you again too.
you ought to love raccoons - or they love you! There is plenty of them in your gallery. Did you breed them or feed them?
Tomas Kohout, the raccoons and I have become friendly, it's true. They live in the woods and I live in the woods too. We are neighbors.
In this thread we learn a bit more about how you get so close.
We had a neighbor down the bottom of the hill when we were kids who had a trio of coons as pets. They had a cage for them when they were not around, but whenever I went to see them they were out and about. They would eat out of your hand and all. They loved peanuts and dried peas. I am enjoying the picture you have of them.
This pretty animals was taking a moment of relax when you have photographed him ... very nice and original shot !
