"The Battle of Vinegar Hill was an engagement during the Irish Rebellion of 1798 on 21 June 1798 when over 15,000 British soldiers launched an attack on Vinegar Hill outside Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, the largest camp and headquarters of the Wexford United Irish rebels. It marked a turning point in the Irish Rebellion of 1798, as it was the last attempt by the rebels to hold and defend ground against the British military. The battle was actually fought in two locations: on Vinegar Hill itself and in the streets of nearby Enniscorthy." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BattleofVinegar_Hill

There is a lot about Irish history I don't know. History was not my big thing, although I'm quite fascinated, so thank you very much for the information. I will read your link to wikipedia. Kind regards

Same here Martin. We didn't learn much Irish history at school, as far as I can remember! More likely to be studying The Renaissance! So it's only now, on my travels that I come across these places, like Vinegar Hill or old castles or round towers, and you wonder about the people who were once right there and all that has happened since, and if those people were around to see the place today...

I think you're right Alan. We did little Irish history as I can remember it. Which is a shame, but I'm picking up more as I go along, and thank you for all of the information you provide with the shots. Kind regards

Martin
