Thank goodness they did not introduce the fox into NZ - its bad enough with the rabbits, stoats, weasils, rats etc. They all prey on the birdlife that live on the ground, like the kiwi (all except for the rabbit...) In Australia they sure a pest I know. Here the rabbit seems to have taken a knock when someone introduced RCV but so many of them survived that and are now stronger, virus wise, than those that died from the rabbit calvisi virus (spelt wrong I think, but...) Oh, forgot, goats, deer, and a couple of others that came into the country. Only good ones would be fish like salmon and trout! Cheers, Peter, New Zealand.

OH, PS style. In New Zealand we have no snakes, flesh eating animals are almost restricted to those mentioned in my above post, there are no bears, large animals of any type except for cows (bovine) the deer intorduced are often larger than a standard farm cow. There are a few spiders that can damage people, (but some people are susceptable to anything...)while I have been bitten by a whitetail (SPIDER, not deer ;-), redback (in Oz when I lived there for 18 years), katapo spider (same as redback just across the 'ditch) and apart from the little swelling on my hand (forearm for the whitetail) there was no long lasting effects at all. We do have a flesh eating bug in Steward Island, and that can damage people and one bloke has lost lower legs and hand due to that. But that type of bug can be found in most other countries I believe. NZ is a pretty safe country - minimal danger from bashing, killing etc, we don't have freedom to have firearms like the US for example, and most people are pretty good. Cheers :-) Pbnz.
