Kısa açıklama: Homeros'un ilk ahalisinin Leleg halkı olduğunu bildirdiği Assos'a önceleri Pedasos deniliyordu. İlk olarak Midilli (Lesbos) adasından İÖ 7. yüzyılda gelen bir grup Assos'a yerleşmiştir. Şehrin zenginlerinden Eubolos İÖ 387'de krallığını ilan etti. Ama bir süre sonra kölesi Hermaios onu öldürüp yerine geçti. Aristotales ile birlikte Platon'un öğrencisi olan Hermaios arkadaşı Aristotales'i burada bir felsefe okulu açması için Assos'a çağırdı. Burada üç yıl ders veren Aristo'nun öğrencilerinden biri de ünlü filozof Kleantestir. A short description: Assos is a small historically rich town in Behramkale, Turkey. The city was founded from 900-1000 BC by Aeolian colonists from Lesbos island. The settlers built a Doric Temple to Athena on top of the crag in 530 BC.[2] From this temple Hermias of Atarneus, a student of Plato, ruled Assos, the Troad and Lesbos for a period of time, under which the city experienced its greatest prosperity. (Strangely, Hermias was actually the slave of the ruler of Atarneus.) Under his rule, he encouraged philosophers to move to the city.
