I just love these old drystone walls, Anita. Every time we visit England I manage to photograph at least a couple, and I make a point of looking whenever anyone else uploads pictures of them.
We have some ranchers in this area who've built similar structures from the volcanic rock that's lying in so many of the fields, but they just aren't the same!
Greetings from northern California,
Paul

Hi Paul, your right, there is something very appealing about Yorkshire drystone walling. The light reflects off the limestone making them stand out against the verdant fields. Have you taken any photo's of the volcanic rock walls, they sound interesting. Regards, Anita

Thank you very much Jorg, it's so nice of you to take the time to look at my new photo's. This is taken in one of my most favourite places in the Yorkshire Dales, I'm so pleased to be able to share it with you. Regards, Anita

Wow, I like your composition. How old are the walls?

Hi Joce, there has been an enclosures act as early as the 12th century but the majority were passed between 1750 and 1860 which enclosed open fields and common land with many of the walls we see today. There is also evidence of iron age walls in the Yorkshire Dales. Regards, Anita
