The Black Brook crosses Rookery Lane at the ford; oddly, the ford is a haphazard affair and almost randomly shrinks and expands. Most of the flow seems to traverse a culvert under the road, but several alternative flows take divergent paths through the trees and onto the road when volume dictates... this creates shady, limpid bodies of water that reflect the greenery and make the atmosphere magical and ever-changing.
