Apparently Ian there has been four other christian buildings on this site. The chapel is the oldest part of the cathedral, it was first built in A.D. 672 by Saint Wilfrid :)Regards, Anita

Beautiful Anita. Regards, Joce

Thanks Joce, the cathedral sits firmly in the middle of the Ripon, which is one of my favourite towns. I can often be seen here spending our hard earned cash :) Regards, Anita

Excellent and unusual point of view, Anita. The lighting and the shadows are beautiful. Cheers, Marilyn

Thanks Marilyn, the cathedral looked a little stark when viewed from the front but the tree lined footpath from the car park to the cathedral shaded us from the full sun and softened the hard lines of the building. Thanks for looking :) Anita

The perspective, colour and lighting make this a superb image, Anita.

Cheers Ian, it's a beautiful cathedral, have you been inside? Lewis Carroll's father became Canon there in 1852. Some people believe that the griffin chasing a rabbit on one of the misericords inspired Lewis to write 'Through the looking glass'. Regards, Anita

Dear Anita,

Yes I have been inside, but only to look, not for a worship or other activity. And I would have enjoyed having you as a guide, for I didn't learn about the griffin or any other gargoyle, that I recall now. I believe you saw the few images of Ripon that I posted a little while ago. I thought that I had a good photo of the cathedral, but yours certainly outshines it. I did know though that Carroll Sr. had been a Canon there.

It is interesting that as I write this I am actually looking out at the intersection of drystone walls behind your home, and hearing a bus stop just outside your front door! Your photography is creating indelible impressions.

Best wishes,

Ha yes, that will be the bus to Ilkley, Ian. Isn't that amazing! You might see me out gardening 8) Regards, Anita
