Cheers David, you're too kind. The poppy is not as sharp as it should be but I just loved the colour, it's like a ray of sunshine. Regards, Anita

I had no idea that English poppies came in any colour other than red, Anita.

Our state flower is the "California Poppy" Eschscholzia californica and it's either orange or yellow and looks just like this. There are several pictures of them in my gallery. HERE'S one example.

Greetings from northern California,

Paul

Hi Paul, you are right, it's a Californian poppy living happily in my garden. They are beautiful aren't they? I also have the lovely blue Himalayan and fantastic large red poppy with a stunning black centre, alas the name escapes me:) I'll try post a photo of the red one, you could possibly help me out with the name. Cheers, Anita

Anita, if it's the poppy of Flanders Field remembrance and such, HERE'S what Wikipedia has to say about it.

HERE'S my look at a field of them in England last fall. I also saw a whole lot of them growing in our county here in California last week and took several shots. I haven't uploaded any of them , but I will if you're interested.

Greetings from northern California,

Paul

Thank you Paul, I think that you are right in saying that my red poppy is the same type as the Flanders poppy :) Thanks for the information. I would love to see your poppy shots. Regards, Anita

A beautiful flower Anita. Poppies have a special appeal, the red ones evoke the memories of word war 2, I always think of my Grandad/s on Poppy Day(they were both in the war)But there are so many other colours people tend to forget. I have the purple one and the red. But I would like the yellow one!

Paula, I've just bought a packet of mixed poppy seeds yesterday so I'm looking forward to next years crop. The yellow one is a Californian poppy, it's a lovely cheerful colour. Cheers, Anita
