Was that sign board recent? I haven't been there in about a year. The photo looks so colourful.

I think the exact location of this photo is about 1km towards the north east.

Hi Bolokes, Mi amamas tru long harim long yu. Yes I am a National and I grew up in Manus. My village (Riuriu) is at the end of the runway. You will drive through my village on your way to Salamei. I was 5 years old in 1986 and we frequented Momote Airport often. Our mother used to go and sell crabs and fish at the haus balus. Tasol mi bin liklik mangi tumas olsem na mi nogat gutpela memory long dispela taim. I can recall some of the things but I can't really recall the signboard. That's why I thought it was recent. But I know its exact location, that's why I sent you a suggestion. Na mi tingim tu dispela olpela colour bilong Air Niugini. Today all the F28s and gone and are replaced by bigger F100s.

I'm currently not living in Manus, though my parents are still there. But I'm planning to go to Manus sometime this year to visit my parents. Last taim mi bin go long Manus em long 2005. And I will try to go visit again somtimes soon.

Mi gat sampela pren husat i bin skul long ECOM high school. One of them in Thomas Usu Jnr. Mi no save bai you tingim ol or nogut yu lus tingting pinis.

What a surprise! :-) During our stay in Lugos we sometimes went for picnic to Salamei beach together with our national friends from Lugos and other Missionaries. So we must have bypassed your village and even, maybe, we have seen each other... Yes, I still remember Thomas Usu, however, I think it was the father, since ECOM High School was founded during my stay something around 1990/1991

Yes, I know Thomas Usu (the father) as well. His son Thomas Jnr is my friend. We went to Uni together and he is now working as a biologist. Thomas Usu Snr is now the school principal of ECOM High School...Manus (and particularly Lorengau) is a small place so yes maybe we have seen each other.

Hi f.morrill, nice to meet you here. This picture (and about 6.000 more) I took during my stay on Manus from 1986 to 1994. I am sure many changes happend since then. I was based on the Mission Station (Evangelival Church of Manus) at Lugos. I regret to say that I did not often visit the military station at Lombrum, maybe only 2-3 times, so that I might not even have pictures from there. However, I am still in contact with Missionaries, working at Lugos. Maybe, you can contact one of them by email to ask for recent pictures...

Bolokes, on February 10, 2010, said:

Hi crament, sorry to say, but I don't know anybody except 6 German Missionaries including a little baby, working on Manus since 1914, who where killed by Japaneese on a ship heading towards Rabaul in 1942 and thrown into the sea. These martyrs are still known and honoured by Manus people, especially by the Evangelical Church of Manus.
