ami ne sam savsem ubeden che tova e po-pravilnata duma za sluchaia.
Dumata CHURCH oznachava curkva - t.e. "hristianski molitven dom/hram" (kakto imash "djamia" primerno).
Do kolkoto znam taz sgrada e ot vremeto predi hristianstvoto da e bilo razprostraneno po tez zemi.
Ot druga strana TEMPLE e po-neutralno i oznachava samo "hram" - bez nepremenno da opredelia religioznata prinadlejnost.
Ili pone taka si mislia :-)
Popravi me ako gresha.
hello Vladimir,
this church was built by christians around 500.
the word ancient usually refers to greek roman or egyptian times.
the word temple refers primarily to a religious building dedicated to pagan gods.(greek roman egyptian, but also buddhist or hindu)
so in english ancient temple means e.g. the temple of the vestal virgins, or those greek temples in sicily.
therefore in english you would call it ruins of an old church.
mnogo pozdravi, (i hope you understand my english)
pasjoesja, thanks for pointing that out. You actally made me further research the subject, and it came out more interesting than I thought ...
Here is the real story of this CHURCH (yes! it was a church!)
Building began around the end of V beginning of VI-th century, and in IX century was built the upper set of arcs.
Originally named "Sveta Sofia" (translaed as St. Sofia) and also known as Starata Mitropolia ("the old bishop's residence")
Here is some more info (in bulgarian)
