This timber Fremantle Traffic Bridge was built in 1939. In May 2008 the state government confirmed an intention to demolish it and build a new one. Remains of an earlier structure, possibly an 1866 convict-built timber bridge, can be seen below the surface where the waves are breaking. The waves were from the wash of a passing recreational boat heading upstream. (Left.) The picture was taken from the North Fremantle side of the Swan River, facing southeast.
