The architect James Renwick was commissioned to design the Gothic Revival Grace Church in 1843: it was his first building design. He would go on to design the original Smithsonian Building and St. Patrick's Cathedral among a number of notable projects.
Grace Church remains an active Episcopal parish. The building is both a NYC and National Historical Landmark.
