the building depicted in this shot is an old guard house that used to belong to the, now disappeared "onze lieve vrouwe" city gate. originally built in 1786, its present exterior dates from a renovation in the first half of the 19th century.
the building in the background is an 11th century church known as "Onze Lieve Vrouw ten Hemelopneming".
