Thunderstorm Rainbow by the Sea

A rainbow against a thundercloud at sunset last Friday evening in Van Damme State Park in Mendocino County, California.

This is one of the rare "dry lightning" thunderclouds Friday night that went on to light the 1000+ wildfires currently burning in California. By morning there were over 90 fires in Mendocino County alone.

Most good photographs require a little visualization and forethought, proper camera settings and focus (such as attention to hyperfocal distance), a filter or two (circular polarixer or graduated neutral density), and sometimes fair amount of time postprocessing in Photomatix, Photoshop Elements or Adobe Lightroom. The results are worth the extra attention to detail!
